about
I was given one day to record three songs at Bear Creek Studios.“Drown” is the first one we recorded on that rainy January day. It's about failing to be present in my life and relationships due to my mental health, and spiraling out of control because of it. Creating this song was a vulnerable experience, and recording it felt like a release. I was inspired by Soccer Mommy and Boygenius while writing it.
lyrics
VERSE
I should have listened to you sooner
Cause times are changing faster than I can count
I don't think I can remember
The last time that I slept without a sound
I fell in love with
PRE-CHORUS
White noise, distraction
Keep going, keep traction
Circling my city, trying to stay dizzy
But I hit my head instead
I hit my head instead
CHORUS
I don't wanna feel like I'm not feeling
Running from the waves up on my ceiling
No way out
I'm caught in the riptide I'm going down
And if I'm gonna be caught in the current
Atleast I'm gonna have my eyes wide open now
I’m caught in the riptide, I'm gonna drown
I'm gonna drown
I'm gonna drown
VERSE
I should probably call my mother
I live so far away and she wants me close
I better invite everyone over
That I shut out when I was convinced I was alone
I fell into the
PRE-CHORUS
Deep blue, the red sea
Keep going, keep swimming
Left in a panic, took things for granted
That are gone and will be gone
Gone and will be gone
REPEAT CHORUS
BRIDGE
The waves keep turning
I better start learning
How to hold on even when it hurts
If I’m a human being
I better start being
Vulnerable to this world
To this world
REPEAT CHORUS
Oh I know that I’m gonna drown
